Lara is an intelligent, athletic, and resourceful archeologist who uses weapons like pistols, bows, and rifles to survive in her adventures. She's since been in a multitude of both games and feature films, and more are currently in development. There's easily a case to be made that Lara Croft has a seat at the "Last Supper" of video game characters as she's been a very recognizable and charismatic name since her debut in 1996. It's not all that easy to find super well-known video game heroines who are violent enough for Mortal Kombat, but Square Enix's 2013 Tomb Raider reboot was the first in the franchise to receive an M-rating, thus unlocking some MK potential. He could also utilize certain buffs that make him faster or stronger for limited time periods, similar to the effects of items he picks up in his home franchise. He'd likely be a gun character, but developers could have some fun with Doom's more over the top weapons such as the BFG and the chainsaw.įor intro sequences, maybe we see an 8-bit first person point of view from Doom Guy as he approaches his foe. We're most certainly into the aforementioned Master Chief territory, and so the inclusion of Doom Guy would probably mean the skipping of figures like Halo's protagonist, Gears of Wars' Marcus Fenix, or Dead Space's Isaac Clarke.Īs popular as those two are, Doom Guy is a good bit more brutal than Chief, and a good bit more well known than Fenix.

This character lives and breathes violence as much as any MK-native as his modus operandi is fighting with the forces of hell via bullets and explosives. The legacy of the Doom franchise is rivaled by few in the gaming world, and so the hype that would come from a Doom Guy reveal would almost certainly be off the charts. This Guy pops up on a whole lot of lists like these despite not having much of an identity defined beyond his trademark armored helmet and massive guns. NetherRealm could surely do a lot with Sweet Tooth beyond a sword and gun as they'd surely base some attacks and maneuvers around his fiery hair, ice cream, cones, clown-related paraphernalia (we've seen them do a lot with Joker, for instance) and his truck. He was actually a playable character in platform fighter PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale where we got to see how he might fare outside of his iconic, machine gun-equipped truck, and he seemed to get by just fine with weapons like a machete and shotgun.

Twisted Metal hasn't seen a ton of action in the last 10 years, but still Sweet Tooth has staying power. He's not the most popular of video game characters, but Needles "Sweet Tooth" Kane's image was so impressing that even those of us who didn't play much Twisted Metal vividly remember the flaming-haired, ice cream truck-driving clown to this day. With that, here are five iconic video game figures we think would make strong DLC additions to a future Mortal Kombat game: Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal) We're not going to concern ourselves with whether or not the owners of the following characters would be okay with their being brutally killed on screen, but most all other hoops are taken into account. NetherRealm Studios clearly have a strong gravitational pull at this point as Mortal Kombat is one of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, but it's still difficult pinpointing exactly who might fit the bill best. One has to consider just how many Master Chief-type of characters could fit onto one MK roster. They also have to have some staying power in terms of their charisma and popularity, as certain figures that were mega popular some years ago may have lost their status in modern times.Ī figure like Max Payne, for instance, probably would have had a chance back in the early 2010's when he was hot, but we haven't seen much from him over the last decade, and we don't often see him referenced anymore.Ī great many of the kinds of characters who fit the MK bill are fairly similar in that they're gun-toting badasses who almost always resort to bullets and grenades. Not only do they have to be super well known and fit the game's particular atmosphere, but their rights holders also have to sign off on having them ripped, beaten, and mangled up. It can't be easy jumping through all the necessary hoops to bring an existing character into the gory world of Mortal Kombat.
